Municipality Čunovo is the most fare village of the Bratislava’s district V, 18 km from the center. It is the most southern city of Bratislava and lies very close to the border of Hungary and Austria. It is located near the Danube cycling track and the Gabčikovo water power station. Part of the city is easily accessible from Bratislava via public transport. The nearest railroad station of personal transport is in Rusovce, 2 km away.

The area was already settled in Roman times, the ruins of Roman settlement were uncovered in 1949. The first written mention of the Čunovo is from 1232. After 1235, the whole neighborhood was ravaged by the Tatars. The Turks were the next disaster, after leaving the Turkish community in the 18th century, the region was colonized by Croatians who were attracted to the new territory by various tax grants. The village was connected with Jarovce and Rusovce under the Paris Convention to Czechoslovakia in 1945. Until then, it belonged to Hungary. Čunovo was annexed to Bratislava in 1972.

Sights:

-      From the village the nearby dam Gabčikovo can be easily accessed. By the output of water in the old riverbed there was a modern sports complex built for water sports. The design of the complex and equipment meets the criteria for world-class sports stadiums. It provides trainings for professional water slalomers and rafting but also for training of amateur athletes. The complex has Olympic parameters, and can hold races on European and world level. For sports competitions there was a closed circuit built which consists of a starting pool, two-track competition (choice), boat lift and porter channel.

-      In north there is the Island Nature Reserve meadow. This site is remarkable for the occurrence of rare plant species, especially orchids.

-      Gallery of Modern Art Danubiana.

-      The most valuable cultural and historical monument of Čunovo is the mansion with a barn from the late 18th century. It is a Baroque-Classic ground floor construction.

-      The Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael was built in 1783 in a late Baroque style. Valuable is a Gothic chalice from the second half of the 15th century.

There is available hotel for tourists, also more restaurants, pubs and cafeterias.
